Tailgate practice: Rice Krispie Treats

Folks, the summer turns into football season at our house about the end of July.  I always have to have my game on all summer long in thinking about future tailgates, player dinners and September/October/November houseguests.  So-- recipes I make for summer treats are always translatable to the busy football season in our coaching family.  If any of you know a college football coach, this is sacred time-there are just a few weeks every year he can travel with his family.  That time is now and if you look around the beaches, there are some football coaches vacationing. (smile!)

We are just finishing up our stint at the beach.  We were lucky to have family join us part of the time and they brought Rice Krispie Treats...what a great beach snack.  Great beach snack = great tailgate snack.  I started looking online for some Rice Krispie Treat recipes and found this mouth waterer via the blogger, Ally Garner, of Copacetic in Carolina's Pinterest board.

Meet  Trail Mix Krispie Treats with a Salted Caramel Swirl.
You'll find them at Cookies and Cups.  They have the amazing recipe along with some gorgeous photographs to tell you how to make them.

Take Me Out to the Tailgate

It's fun to tailgate at the College World Series in Omaha.  The Omaha World-Herald published an article about the tradition:

Favorite teams not in CWS; fans still come

Doug Guidry is loading up an 8-foot trailer with crawfish, shrimp and chicken sausage and driving 17 hours from Louisiana to Omaha for the College World Series.
The funny thing is, his favorite baseball team — the Louisiana State Tigers — didn't make it to the series this year. But that couldn't stop the die-hard baseball fan and his six buddies from making the trip. Turns out, they're pretty big Omaha fans, too.
After 11 years of Cajun-style tailgating and baseball, the series is these guys' annual vacation.

Traveling the Southeastern Conference

It will be an interesting and fun college football season this fall.  With all of the conference changes, we will find new rivalries forming and a lot of gameday travel that is new to fans.  The Southeastern Conference added the University of Missouri and Texas A&M during the offseason.   Mizzou and A&M are both preparing fans for their new schedule by providing information now to prepare for fall travel.  Mizzou magazine, the magazine of the Mizzou Alumni Association, made a fantastic guide to the pleasures of SEC travel.  See the feature at the link below.

Cooling off for Fathers Day...

A special cooler is a great Father's Day gift idea.  Here is the Gameday Style
cooler post from the fall...so dad can keep his drinks cold in a super fancy cooler like a Yeti or in a super cute hand-painted cooler...

Need a gift idea for someone that takes their gameday seriously?
Perhaps a nice cooler would do the trick.

It's easy to find a plain cooler and paint it up!  Southern Tide has held a cooler contest for the past two college tailgating seasons and here are what some folks came up with.

Customizing a cooler with one's favorite team would be a popular gift.  Need some help doing so?  There is an entire Facebook page dedicated to the painting of coolers right here...

Here are a couple of darling team themed coolers from the Facebook page.
You'll find more photos and tons of tips at the page.

Undecorated and simple, here is the best cooler your money can buy...a YETI.  Read about this "super cooler" right here at Bearings online magazine:

This cooler is an investment but the recipient of it will be appreciative...it claims to keep ice frozen for up to 14 days.

You can also keep it classic with a Coleman Vintage.  Add a tasteful sticker to this metal guy and it becomes spirited.  You can purchase this Coleman from Orvis.
Finally, maybe you're looking for a unique cooler?  The Peterboro Basket Company makes this beautiful woven piece.
